Indians star Lindor may miss season start

Francisco Lindor’s injury a reminder of his immense worth to the Indians and their championship hopes

The team announced Friday afternoon that shortstop Francisco Lindor suffered a right calf strain while preparing for spring training.

From a certain perspective, even though a repeat of past year has been hard to foresee even if he was healthy right now, Lindor could now become a relative value in fantasy drafts and auctions. He is expected to miss seven to nine weeks. He'll be cutting it close based on this timeline, but there's enough time for him to recover in time to start the season healthy.

Unfortunately, this team will not head into spring training with a full group of guys.

With the departures of veterans including Michael Brantley, Andrew Miller, Yan Gomes and others, the Indians and its fan base is turning to Lindor and is famous smile for positive energy.

If there is a silver lining, the calf injury did not happen during the regular season.

Even if Lindor is progressing well, you'd have to imagine Cleveland going with a cautious approach, meaning it's likely he'd miss the first couple weeks of the season.

Spring training hasn't even begun, but already the Indians are dealing with a big injury to one of, if not the biggest star on the team.

Rehab is already underway for the All-Star shortstop.

The Indians open their season in Minnesota against the Twins on March 28th. Flaherty has played sparingly at short in his seven-year career.

A three-time All-Star, Lindor batted.277 last season with 38 homers, 92 RBIs and tied for the league lead with 129 runs. Both are career highs. Position players are scheduled to report on February 16. Position players report on February 16.
