Uefa boss Aleksander Ceferin re-elected on four-year term

Gianni Infantino

Breakaway threats by elite clubs have often arisen ahead of periodic talks to change the Champions League's entry list, format and prize money distribution.

"By putting respect, hope and solidarity at the heart of our strategy, we will step up our efforts to develop football in every country by putting the focus back on grassroots football and education".

UEFA called the session to explain how referees will apply video review of key decisions for the first time in its competitions.

But only bosses from Juventus, Lyon, Paris St-Germain, Roma and Schalke arrived with the other clubs sending "assistants, other staff or even marketing people".

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, meanwhile, said a task force set up to look at possible formats for the competitions may not complete its report by March as originally scheduled. "It can only be done if we work together, if we discuss, if we debate", he said. New members of UEFA's ruling panel also include Andriy Pavelko, who has been implicated in allegations of financial wrongdoing in Ukraine.

"We will work hand-in-hand with our partner, the European Club Association, to design the club competitions of the future", Ceferin said.

"The respect goes two ways towards the world and Europe and I think that's the right approach", Infantino he said". That decision is scheduled for 2023.

Florence Hardouin was chosen as the women's football representative for the UEFA EXCO, whilst Nasser Al-Khelaifi was voted to represent European clubs on the committee.

"I am happy to be part of this great football family today".

Ukraine retains its place on UEFA's highest committee which was held by Grigoriy Surkis, the former Dynamo Kiev president, who stood down after 15 years.

- UEFA will launch its own over-the-top (OTT) online streaming platform to broadcast games within six months.

Aleksander Ceferin has been formally re-elected as president of UEFA by acclamation. His presidency began in September 2016.

The strengthening of the ties between UEFA and ECA can also be interpreted as a reinforced alliance against, and a signal towards, Federation Internationale de Football Association and its president Infantino, whose plans of pushing through with a $25 billion Softbank-backed investment to buy out some of FIFA's competitions and rights to revamp the Club World Cup and introduce a Global Nations League have been met with great scepticism in Europe.

Infantino has spent the past year promoting the offer from private investors to revamp the Club World Cup and create a global Nations League tournament.

However, the controversial plans have met with strong opposition in Europe.

"A leader without doubts", Ceferin said, "is a delusional and risky leader". "It is a fact".

His most notable achievements have been introducing term limits for UEFA presidents - to a maximum of three four-year stints - and, according to one of those close to him, "maintaining unity in European football". The only thing great about you would be your past.

"Thank you once again for placing your trust in me, I am both touched and honoured", Čeferin told delegates.
