‘Walking Dead’ star Danai Gurira reportedly exiting zombie series

Jackson Lee Davis AMC AMC

She's also set to star in Godzilla vs Kong in 2020. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Danai Gurira, who stars as Michonne in the series, will leave The Walking Dead during season 10. Cohan will be starring in Fear of the Walking Dead.

Per the shocking development, Gurira will return as the katana-wielding Michonne for Season 10 in just a few episodes that will be dispersed throughout the season.

Gurira made her first true appearance up on the show as the fan favorite character in Season 3, after a brief tease in the Season 2 finale. It's not all bad news from THR, though. We still don't know much about those projects, but it appears she is not completely done with Michonne yet. She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays. In 2016, her future Black Panther co-star starred in Eclipsed, a play that starred her future Black Panther castmate Lupita Nyong'o, earned Gurira a Tony nomination for best play.

The Walking Dead continues on AMC Sundays and returns Mondays on Fox UK. She's given a huge part of her professional life to The Walking Dead, and it looks like she's ready for a new challenge. The announcement of her departure strikes another massive blow to the hit series after Andrew Lincoln left late previous year.

Gurira has recently seen her fame skyrocket after being cast in the MCU's Black Panther as General Okoye.

Gurira, who made a huge impression previous year playing Okoye in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, will be another major loss for the show, which remains one of the most-watched on cable despite the departures of Lincoln and other cast members.
