Wigan's Chris Ashton a surprise inclusion in England RU side

Chris Ashton has been recalled to the England starting team to face France

Ashton for Nowell and Courtney Lawes for the injured Maro Itoje are the only two changes Eddie Jones makes to his side that beat Ireland last weekend in Dublin.

England started their campaign in sensational style last weekend, scoring four tries as they overwhelmed Grand Slam holders Ireland 32-20 at the Aviva Stadium.

"We feel that maybe early in the game, as he did against New Zealand he can find the line for us, could be important".

Farrell too was aware that after overcoming the highly-coached Irish side, England will have to answer different questions on what is likely to be a wet and windy day.

"It was a long time ago - and one to forget as well", the dual code global said. "It's always the aim to get a try but it's how the game goes, if the opportunity comes hopefully I'll be in the right place". "Everyone wants to start, but in the past few years the finishers have had a big impact for us". "I've had to sit and watch that so I'm just happy to be part of it again".

It was a bold statement by the Australian following a superb all-round show against the Grand Slam champions but captain Owen Farrell agreed.

This could well just be a platitude that all managers will say after a good performance, although they don't really mean it. Everyone is good at stuff.

Itoje was expected to be missing until the final rounds of the tournament but Jones revealed he back sooner than expected from his grade two medial ligament tear. He was nearly available for selection this week, but he's not.

Replacements: 16 Luke Cowan-Dickie (Exeter Chiefs, 8 caps), 17 Ben Moon (Exeter Chiefs, 4 caps), 18 Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers, 82 caps), 19 Joe Launchbury (Wasps, 54 caps), 20 Nathan Hughes (Wasps, 19 caps), 21 Dan Robson (Wasps, uncapped), 22 George Ford (Leicester Tigers, 52 caps), 23 Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs, 30 caps).

"We've got great depth in the squad so Joe Launchbury and Courtney Lawes will fill Maro's shoes very well".

France got off to a rocky beginning last week, blowing a 16-0 halftime lead to lose 24-19 at home to Wales after a series of blunders. All we know for sure for now is that they are improving at a fair lick and their first team flat-out is becoming nice enough to eat.

"We've had a good look at France and what they can bring to the table but we just have to be organised in defence and have that relentless attitude to get after them".
