Iran says ready to cooperate with new Lebanon gov't

Iran awaits Lebanese 'desire' to accept its military aid Foreign Minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Sunday that the Islamic republic will maintain supports for Palestine's "resistance" groups, official IRNA news agency reported. The conference is widely seen as aimed at isolating Iran, which was not invited.

A political solution to the Syrian crisis should necessarily include the withdrawal of all armed forces that are in Syria illegally, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Monday.

"We explained why we will not be present at the Warsaw conference", Bassil added, noting that Lebanon will boycott the meeting because "Israel will be present and because of the orientation the conference is expected to take".

Iran, which was not invited, has denounced the conference as a US -led anti-Iran "circus".

Lebanon has been following a policy of disassociation from regional conflicts. Tehran enjoys wide influence in Lebanon through the Hezbollah militant group, which along with allied parties holds a majority in parliament.

"We are confident that the new government will succeed in Lebanon".

Zarif is the first senior official from the region to visit Lebanon since the new government was formed.

Some Lebanese politicians have expressed reservations over the offer from Iran, which is under USA sanctions.

Accepting the offer "may isolate the country, because the worldwide community will consider Beirut as part of Tehran's axis", they explained. He also said Iran was ready to provide Lebanon with electricity and medicine.

"If the Lebanese government demands, Iran is ready to cooperate with this country in all fields", Zarif told reporters in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

"We don't want to embarrass anyone in Lebanon through the cooperation with the Islamic Republic", he said, adding that there is no global law that bans Iran from cooperating with any country.

Zarif said on Saturday that the Americans made a lot of effort for holding the anti-Iran conference in Warsaw, but they have now altered their stance which shows the summit has already failed to reach its initial purposes. Some 1 million Syrian refugees have fled to neighboring Lebanon since the civil war broke out eight years ago.

For his part, al-Nakhala thanked Iran for its support for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian nation.
