Jussie Smollett finally turns phone records over to cops

"We are very appreciative of the victim's cooperation however the records provided do not meet the burden for a criminal investigation as they were limited and heavily redacted", Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

A patron at Lizzie McNeill's Irish Pub, about a block from the scene of the alleged January 29 incident, said Smollett's story "doesn't really make sense". His manager has said that he could hear the attack over the phone and was able to hear the phrase "MAGA country" - the acronym from President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said that police are still treating Smollett as the victim of a crime, but he will be held accountable if he's found to have made a false police report, journalist Rafer Weigel tweeted earlier this month.

The downtown Chicago area wehre the alleged attack occured has many hotels and restaurants and has widespread surveillance video coverage, and although police have found footage of Smollett making his way home - including video of him arriving at his building with a rope around his neck - they have not found footage of the attack or men fitting his description of his assailants.

Meanwhile, Chicago police said Sunday that Smollett has yet to turn over data from his cell phone to verify that he was on the phone with his music manager, Brandon Moore, when he was allegedly attacked.

Last week, The Post traced Smollett's likely route to the underpass from a 24-hour Subway sandwich shop where he bought a tuna sandwich and a salad.

The NYP said that last week it retraced Smollett's route and discovered "an empty hot sauce bottle that was partially filled with a clear liquid that smelled like bleach" and turned it over to police who turned it over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The FBI declined to comment.

The FBI is also investigating a letter that was dropped off at the Empire studios, the Tribune adds: 'On Jan. 22, witnesses told police a postal worker dropped off a letter at the studio where "Empire" is filmed. I'm the one who called 911, I am the one who took him to the hospital, and it was so scary, man, that was a scary night - my stomach was numb.

"We have no reason to think he's not being genuine with us", Johnson said. "Half the people are gay and the other half are black". "And I hope that you all will stand with me". "The hateration is just unbelievable". Police are also going to stores to ask employees if they recall selling rope to anyone and to determine if security camera footage shows someone buying the kind of rope that was tied, noose-like, around Smollet's neck. Instead, he said, he was interested in Smollett's "well-being". "Sometimes he responds, sometimes he doesn't", he said of Smollett, adding that he seems to appreciate the concern'.
