Katy Perry’s Controversial Blackface Shoes To Be Pulled From Retailers

Katy Perry Blackface Shoes

Katy Perry may be in the midst of doing some major damage control.

Today, Katy Perry becomes the latest high-profile person to come under scrutiny related to the use of black face, but in this case for designing a shoe that resembles the racist gesture.

Singer-apparently-designer Katy Perry is facing scrutiny from the social media masses after her brand released a pair of black sandals featuring eyes and large red lips along the top.

TMZ reported that two styles, the Ora Face block-heel sandal and the Rue Face slip-on loafer, are being pulled from shelves at Walmart and Dillard's.

Although the shoes come in two colors, black and beige, only their black counterparts have drawn criticism due to their resemblance to classic blackface makeup.

Sources close to the singer tell TMZ that Katy designed the shoes in question, that is part of an entire line of shoes that were never meant to be offensive.

The scandal comes shortly after Gucci was slammed over its "blackface" wool jumper that was being sold online and in stores. Prada dropped a number of bag accessories last December after critics accused the brand of including minstrel figurines in their products.
