Morocco recalls ambassador from Saudi Arabia

Morocco scaled down its participation in the coalition in May 2015 after one of its jets was reportedly shot down by the Houthis

Another Moroccan government official said the ambassador was recalled after a Saudi television report about the disputed Western Sahara.

The coalition's denial comes on the heels of a CNN investigation published earlier this week that found Saudi Arabia and its coalition partners had supplied American-made weapons to al Qaeda-linked fighters, hard-line Salafi militias and other factions battling in Yemen - a violation of their arms sales agreements with the United States.

The Saudi-led Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has viewed with concern, media reports alleging the transfer of USA military weapons to the Iranian-backed Houthi militia and AQAP in Yemen.

A Moroccan government official said Thursday that Morocco no longer takes part in military interventions or ministerial meetings in the Saudi-led coalition.

Meanwhile, the Coalition has viewed with concern media reports alleging the transfer of USA military weapons to the Iranian backed Houthi militias and AQAP in Yemen.

The broadcasting of the Al Arabiya documentary came after Qatari TV channel Al Jazeera last month aired an interview with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, who expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Mansouri did not respond to a request for comment and the Saudi embassy in Rabat also declined to comment, the Reuters news agency reported.

The tour came amid global concern about the Yemen war and condemnation of the killing of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul.

Weddings, funerals, schools and hospitals, as well as water and electricity plants, have been targeted, killing and wounding thousands.

Yemen's four-year war and ensuing economic collapse have unleashed the world's most urgent humanitarian crisis with 14 million of its 29 million population staring at starvation.

A large territory in southern Morocco, the Western Sahara remains the subject of dispute between Rabat and the Polisario Front, an Algeria-backed movement which for decades has called for regional independence.

In addition, ties between Rabat and Riyadh deteriorated unprecedentedly following the ascension of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to power.

Food prices have increased by an average of 68 percent, and the price of commodities such as petrol, diesel and cooking gas have increased by at least 25 percent in the past year.
