West Virginia Men’s Basketball Program Dismisses 2 Players

West Virginia Men’s Basketball Program Dismisses 2 Players

This evening, the university released a statement that senior Esa Ahmad and junior Wesley Harris have been dismissed from the basketball team.

No further information was provided, but the impact was definite: the time for two of the Mountaineers' top men's basketball players at WVU has come to an end.

Head coach Bob Huggins has already had to deal with injuries to Beetle Bolden and Sagaba Konate, so this will only pour more salt into the wound.

The Mountaineers have dismissed senior forward Esa Ahmad, a 6-foot-8 forward out of OH, and senior forward Wesley Harris, a 6-foot-8 product out of Mississippi. The 6-foot-8 forward was benched for two games - November 24 against Valparaiso and January 12 against Oklahoma State - but was regarded as the team's top perimeter defender.

The Mountaineers have dismissed senior Esa Ahmad and junior Wesley Harris for "a violation of athletic department policies", the team announced Monday. They've lost 10 of their last 12 dating back to January 2, and are in the midst of a two-game skid.

Ahmad and Harris have both been starters for West Virginia's team this season.

West Virginia travels to face reigning Big 12 champion Kansas on Saturday before facing league-leading Kansas State and Baylor in consecutive games.

Ahmad, a former four-star recruit, started 102 games for the Mountaineers and was averaging 12 points and 5.8 rebounds this season.

West Virginia is coming off a blowout loss to Texas.

The Mountaineers are set to play at Kansas on February 16.
