Company that advertised one-way trips to Mars goes bankrupt

Mars One’s ill-fated dream unsurprisingly ends in bankruptcy

A Swiss court declared the commercial division of the Mars One project, the goal of which is to colonize planet Mars, bankrupt. Utilizing its new investment plan, Mars One Ventures will establish a marketing machine, creating continuous content about these activities, evaluated from all angles, including technological, psychological, economical, and ethical aspects.

"We are now working with the administrator and an investor to find a solution moving forward, though at this moment that is all we can share", the company said in an email.

Mars One had always been subject to controversy. The organization promised wannabe space travelers that it would send them to the Red Planet to start the first human settlement, however, that it would not return them to Earth as it came up short on the technology to get them off the planet.

In an interview with Engadget, Lansdorp said that the Mars One Foundation - the non-profit arm of the project - was still operating, but unable to do anything without any investors. By 2013, the company claimed that almost 80,000 people had done so.

Mars One has not responded to a CTVNews.ca request for comment. Matter likewise discovered that Mars One's process for choosing these candidates was questionable.

Hey, remember that bad Mars mission startup that just officially died because it totally ran out of money and it wasn't even close to doing anything meaningful? But the vexing question is, just why in the hell would anybody want to salvage Mars One? The company goes on to explain that it's going to "redirect its focus" and attempt to actually make good on its claims of a manned Mars mission. Along the way, Mars One also fended off accusations that it was running a scam, getting people to pay almost $40 for a remote chance to travel in space. In July 2018, an investment deal with Phoenix Enterprises was announced, that was set to inject $12 million into the firm over the coming year.
