Woman who threw chair from high-rise balcony surrenders to police

Toronto police say a woman recorded on video appearing to throw a chair off a condo balcony and onto a highway below has turned herself in.

A video of a Toronto woman throwing a chair onto the Gardiner expressway made the rounds this weekend, prompting outrage and confusion to everyone that saw it. Nobody was injured as a result of the of the chair throwing. The woman, who has since been revealed to be 19-year-old Marcella Zoia.

Marcella Zoia, 19, of Toronto is charged with one count each of mischief endangering life, mischief endangering property under $5,000 and common nuisance.

Video of the woman circulated online.

And that's what has happened, ' police spokesman David Hopkinson told CBC. This is irresponsible behavior that is unacceptable, ' Toronto mayor, John Tory said. He added, "This could have caused death or injury and is not acceptable".

On Tuesday, police reached out to the public to ask for the woman to surrender. The blonde haired suspect was clad in a leather jacket, black trousers and high heels as she tossed the chair off of the 45th-floor balcony towards the passing traffic below.

The chairs reportedly landed near the building's front entrance and there were no reports of injuries.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Saturday morning.

The video was captioned with "Good Morning". The suspect was staying at the home as part of an Airbnb rental.

Luckily, no one was hurt, despite the evident stupidity and blatant disregard for others that we see in this video. "We will be suspending any guest's accounts that appear to be connected to this incident".
