Browns sign Hunt to one-year deal

Kareem Hunt signs with Browns

In fact, Quinn made several strong comments about his ideal view of the type of players he wants to sign in Detroit.

After months of investigating, research and one-on-one discussions with Hunt, Dorsey said he was comfortable bringing the Cleveland native into the Browns' organization. The future of the team rests in the shoulders of his performance moving forward.

Hunt was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs organization this past year.

But, there is also a wide spectrum between zero tolerance and signing a player who has committed a violent act a mere 10 weeks after his last employer released him for being untruthful-and while he is still on the NFL's commissioner's exempt list, meaning that the NFL's investigation into what took place during these incidents is still ongoing.

"He was forthright about the lie that he told", Dorsey said.

Hunt appeared in 11 games in 2018 and had 824 rushing yards, 378 receiving yards and 14 total touchdowns before his release in late November.

"I heard speculation it might be the whole season", Balzer said. "He understands the magnitude of his actions". I keep saying that. "This will be a day-to-day thing in terms of earning trust". I think that is how you go about this. According to ESPN, the NFL has not finished its investigation into the matter and Hunt will remain unable to play until the league makes a final verdict.

Others look at the move for football purposes and understand why GM John Dorsey reunited with the kid he drafted just a couple of seasons ago.

Dorsey drafted Hunt in 2017 and feels the former Toledo back's contrition is genuine.

Dorsey acknowledged that the Browns will take a PR hit for the signing, but it clearly isn't affecting business.

The Browns' surprising move on Monday, as expected, caused a slew of reactions on social media.

"We probably will [take a PR hit], but, at the end of the day, there's nothing guaranteed", Dorsey said.

No other NFL teams appeared to be interested in Hunt at this time, as they were likely waiting to see what suspension would be handed down by the league, in the wake of his hotel assault video.

"First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions a year ago".

"I think we're all appalled by it. It is an egregious act", he said. From this, we learned that he was untruthful about his actions and did not seek help to correct his violent behaviors until after the video was released and he lost his job in the NFL.

"My relationship and interaction with Kareem since 2016 in college was an important part of this decision making process but we then did extensive due diligence with many individuals, including clinical professionals, to have a better understanding of the person he is today and whether it was prudent to sign him", Dorsey said.

Dorsey believes that Hunt can fix his shattered reputation.

"Here at the Browns, there is a detailed plan with expectations laid out that he understands and must follow, because any similar incident will not be tolerated".
