Ford announces three recalls, one of which covers 1.5 million pickup trucks

Ford Motor Company announced a triple shot of recalls Wednesday morning that address problems in approximately 1.5 million Ford F-150s, Mustangs, Lincoln Continentals, Lincoln Nautilus and Lincoln Navigators.

Ford has launched three recalls for vehicles sold in the U.S. market including the 2011-2013 F-150, 2017-2019 Lincoln Continental, and the 2019 Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus and Navigator.

Ford said it is aware of five reports of accidents, including one that resulted in a person experiencing whiplash.

Owners of the affected vehicles are advised to contact their dealer to have the powertrain control module software updated.

The recall affects 1.26 million vehicles in the United States and federalized territories and approximately 221,000 in Canada. An issue with the door latch motor could potentially cause the door to malfunction and open while driving.

Select 2017-19 Lincoln Continental vehicles are under recall for a door latch concern.

The company said it is now unaware of any reports of accidents or injuries resulting from the condition.

In December 2017, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into whether that recall should be expanded by almost 1.4 million 2011-2013 vehicles after 123 complaints and two crashes but no reported injuries.

Ford said it knew of no accidents related to either of the latter two recalls.

As remedy, Ford service people will replace all four door latch assemblies.

A third recall was issued on Wednesday on select 2019 Ford Mustang, Lincoln Nautilus and Lincoln Navigator vehicles for blank instrument panel cluster assemblies. The company says the "instrument panel cluster assemblies"-digital dashboards-in those cars could be blank when the vehicle is started". Ford spokeswoman Monique Brentley said the root cause was different than in the new recall.
