Google Ready To Launch Pixel Lite, Smartwatch As Ambitions Grow

Google Pixel

In a report published last December, Android Police's David Ruddock wrote that Google would launch the two phones via us carrier Verizon in the spring of 2019.

Nikkei Asian Review spoke to unnamed "industry sources" who revealed a cavalcade of Google products that are now in the pipeline. It'll be priced under Apple's entry-level iPhone of the moment, the iPhone XR.

In the global smartphone market, Google's share is quite low.

Nikkei Asian Review, which was been accurate with some Google-related rumours and reports in the past, is today reporting that not only will Google be releasing the new budget Pixel 3 Lite phones but also some other interesting hardware. The list includes Google Pixel watch at the top spot.

Finally, Strategy Analytics declared the Pixel 3 in particular is "starting to resonate" with USA customers that are "searching for something new, such as eSIM connectivity or AI".

The company is also apparently planning to launch the new Pixel Watch later this year, which would make sense considering Google just recently spent $40 million on Fossil's smartwatch tech. The source also confirmed the existence of the Pixel 3 Lite - a cheaper variant of Google's current Pixel range that we've talked about before. The Pixel 3 Lite expected to carry a 4GB RAM, 32 GB Storage and a Snapdragon 670.

Pixel 3 Lite purportedly has the same 5.5-inch screen size as the Pixel 3, but will carry a lower resolution 2,220 x 1,080 IPS panel compared to the FHD+ OLED on the latter. Before "made by Google" Pixel phones, the company worked with hardware partners such as HTC and LG to offer Nexus devices.

Nikkei doesn't specify the pricing of the new device, just that it will come it at under $749 where the iPhone XR is. After all, the search company has announced a new Google Home every year since 2016. It will be the company's first wearable device which has already been delayed due to some reasons a year ago. It's unclear when the Pixel Watch will be ready to launch, but a Google I/O seems like the next major hardware event.
