Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese bringing serial killer project to TV

Dr. Henry Howard Holmes originally born as Herman Webster Mudgett

And, for nearly as long, there have been rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio was keen to produce and star in a film about H.H. Holmes, with his mentor Martin Scorsese at the helm; DiCaprio even scored film rights to The Devil in the White City, a nonfiction book about Holmes by Erik Larson, over a decade ago.

During Monday's presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour (via Variety), Hulu revealed that they are officially developing a television series based off of Erik Larson's iconic 2003 novel. There were even talks that Tom Cruise would star and produce an adaptation and later Kathryn Bigelow was attached to direct and produce. The book recounts the true story of Daniel H. Burnham, the genius architect behind the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and how his incomparable world showcase would intersect with that of serial killer H.H. Holmes (real name Herman Webster Mudgett), a doctor who committed heinous crimes just blocks from the massive fair grounds.

The series' executive producers include Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, both of whom have had ties to the book's long trek into live-action. DiCaprio has been attached since the beginning, originally announced to play Holmes when his production company Appian Way picked up the rights to the book all the way back in 2010.

The pair are exec producing the series, which is being developed at the digital platform by Paramount TV, alongside Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, Emma Koskoff, and Jennifer Davisson.

Are you excited to see The Devil in the White City finally get a live-action adaptation?
