Spike Lee casts Chadwick Boseman in first film since Blakkklansman

Chadwick Boseman Teams Up with Spike Lee for Netflix's Da 5 Bloods

Leading the film will be Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, along with Delroy Lindo and Jean Reno. Lee is producing the film with Jon Kilik, Beatriz Levin and Lloyd Levin.

'To quote my brother Jay-Z from Da People's Republic of Brooklyn "On to Da Next One,"' Lee said in a statement.

Lee is working on the script with Kevin Wilmott, who was also a writer on the script for Lee's Oscar nominated BlacKkKlansman. "Da 5 Bloods" would mark Lee's first directing gig for Netflix as the streaming giant continues to draw high-profile talent.

With director Spike Lee eyeing the first Oscar of his illustrious career for Best Picture nominee BlacKkKlansman, the filmmaker has now set up his next project.

Lee was wearing a black hat and a hooded sweatshirt, both emblazoned with "1619", the year which he said "the first slaves were brought to this country, Jamestown, Virginia".

Previous year marked a return to the spotlight for the iconic director.

Speaking of box office success, Boseman is coming off of Black Panther, which grossed $700 million stateside en route to becoming the third-highest grossing domestic release of all time.

Black Panther also became the first superhero movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture, competing with Lee's BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice. He can next be seen in the STX thriller "17 Bridges", bowing this summer.
