Offshore wind turbines to power past fossil fuels by 2030

The government commitment is for offshore wind to produce 30 gigawatts by 2030 creating thousands of so-called “green collar” jobs in the process

A third of Britain's electricity will be generated by offshore wind farms by 2030, under government plans.

Announcing a plan to help the industry, energy minister Claire Perry said: 'This new sector deal will drive a surge in the clean, green offshore wind revolution'.

The Co-Chair of the Offshore Wind Industry Council and Ørsted UK Country Manager for Offshore, Benj Sykes, said: "This relentlessly innovative sector is revitalising parts of the country with transformational, sustainable opportunities, especially coastal communities, from Wick in the north of Scotland to the Isle of Wight, and from Barrow-in-Furness to the Humber".

And key to that effort will be offshore wind.

BEIS said: "The deal will mean for the first time in United Kingdom history there will be more electricity from renewables than fossil fuels, with 70% of British electricity predicted to be from low carbon sources by 2030 and over £40bn of infrastructure investment in the United Kingdom".

To conclude, Floating Offshore Wind Power report focus on Global and regional market, providing information on major players like manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, traders, customers, investors, major types, major applications and etc. Data type include capacity, production, market share, price, revenue, cost, gross, gross margin, growth rate, consumption, import, export, Industry chain, manufacturing process, cost structure, marketing channel are also analyzed in this report.

In return, the industry has committed to increase the share of British content in new projects to 60 per cent, from about 48 per cent in recent years.

Reduce the cost of projects in the 2020s and overall system costs, so projects commissioning in 2030 will cost consumers less as we move towards a subsidy free world.

The deal will also boost global exports to areas like Europe, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States fivefold to £2.6 billion per year by 2030 through partnership between the Department of Trade and industry to support smaller supply chain companies to export for the first time.

The Crown Estate will also be releasing new seabed land from 2019 for future offshore wind projects. Market Overview 3.1 Introduction 3.2 Market Size and Demand Forecast until 2023 3.3 Installed Offshore Wind Capacity in MW (2010-2017) 3.4 Key Offshore Wind Projects 3.5 Recent Trends and Developments 3.6 Government Policies & Regulations 3.7 Investment Opportunities 4.

Energy UK's chief executive, Lawrence Slade, said: 'Today's sector deal, and continued investment from industry, will create a global offshore wind market set to be worth £30 billion a year by 2030 and further cement the UK's position as a world-leader in offshore wind.

But Greenpeace said that renewables needed to be scaled up even more. This leaves Britain with a big energy gap in the future.

The offshore wind industry has grown almost five-fold since 2011, with 23 gigawatts installed at the end of 2018 and a large volume of planned projects in Europe, China and the United States.

'Renewable power now presents the best opportunity for cheaper, cleaner and faster decarbonisation.

Additionally, it "will look to seize on the opportunities presented by the UK's 7,000 miles of coastline, as the industry continues to be a coastal catalyst for numerous UK's former fishing villages and ports", the government statement said.
