Windows 10 will now automatically uninstall problematic Updates

Microsoft implemented a new troubleshooting step recently in Windows 10 that improves the operating system's handling of startup problems.

Windows 10's run of problematic updates has been embarrassing for Microsoft, which might explain why the company has quietly launched this feature.

Windows automatically installs updates to keep your device secure and running at peak efficiency.

As an extra security measure, Microsoft will further stop Windows from downloading updates for the next 30 days.

Users can also help Redmond fix issues with problematic Windows updates by submitting their feedback with the help of the Feedback Hub app. It's worth noting that Microsoft performs this step only when it's done with all the other possible recovery methods.

Microsoft said that if you, however, believe that an update should not have been uninstalled, you can choose to manually install driver or quality updates. Your device has recently recovered from a startup failure if you have received this notification: "We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure".

Once an update has been removed, Windows will not attempt to reinstall it for another 30 days.

Other problems with this update include authentication issues with Internet Explorer 11 (although you shouldn't be using that outdated browser anyway) and an error "1309" which appears when installing or uninstalling certain types of MSI and MSP files. Windows Updates which fail dues to software incompatibilities will get automatically uninstalled.

Automatic recovery is great if it works and the new update removal option is certainly a welcome addition to the automatic recovery process.

The new feature is created to spot if Windows has failed to start and cross-reference it against any updates to Windows-as-a-Service that have been installed, and if necessary, restore to the "last good configuration". This will give Microsoft and our partners the opportunity to investigate the failure and fix any issues.
