Facebook and Instagram services suffer widespread outages

Facebook into second day of global outage

Facebook's ad products were also being affected, according to CNET.

Facebook is now down with people all around the globe having difficulty accessing the world's largest social network. WhatsApp, Facebook's other messaging app, had similar problems.

DSoS is short for distributed denial of service, a cyber attack by which multiple computers flood a website's servers in an attempt to take it offline.

"We're working on getting it fixed as soon as we can", a message told many users as they tried to post content. "We're working to resolve the issue as soon as possible", the Facebook account said on Twitter.

The live outage map on downdetector.com shows outages spread across the U.S.

Facebook says it is aware of outages on its platforms including Facebook, Messenger and Instagram and is working to resolve the issue.

Some users complained that they were unable to connect to the sites at all, while others reported being unable to tag people or post comments on Facebook posts.

One said: "Facebook, Messenger and Instagram are down and here I am ranting on Twitter".

Although many users are able to open the two popular social media platforms, it seems to not send or receive messages on either platform, and one can not post new content on them either.

A member of the Facebook team posted on the developer platform status page stating, "We are now experiencing issues that may cause some API requests to take longer or fail unexpectedly".

It is still unclear when two of the biggest social media networks will be back up and running.
