AirPods, wireless headphones could cause cancer, scientists claim

The WHO has issued already the guidelines for electromagnetic radiation (EMF), but according to the scientists, even low levels of radiation could already be carcinogenic.

In a letter addressed to the heads of the United Nations and the World Health Organization, a group of scientists expressed concern over the public's increased exposure to non-ionizing electromagnetic fields (EMF) generated by electric and wireless devices.

Advent of new wireless technologies are outpacing research and regulation, and its effects could have unsafe even disastrous health effects, such as the untested 5G posed to roll out using broader and far stronger signals than ever before.

Some 250 have signed the petition, which warns against numerous devices that emit radiofrequency radiation, which is used in WiFi, cellular data and Bluetooth.

AirPods are Apple's most popular audio accessory since launched in 2016 and continue to remain incredibly popular choice of around 28 million so as to tackle the tangled headphones.

Their central argument is couched within the second part of that quote - that national and worldwide standards for what is considered safe levels of exposure to EMF should be lowered. Phillips is one of the many scientists who have called for a restriction on use of such devices.

Scientists are calling for more warnings and oversight for all manner of radiowave based technologies and they are especially concerned over proximity and intensity of bluetooth radiation to the ear canal and brain.

Although high levels of EMF can generate heat, cause burns and affect cell growth in humans, scientists have not determined the impact of large amounts of relatively low-level EMF exposure, produced by devices like AirPods. But: the animals were exposed to in experiments of high-frequency radiation, were in above-average mass of genetic, neurological, and reproductive damage.

Leeka I. Kheifets an epidemiologist at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has too previously noted wireless headphones are a "a positive development", as they pull people away from placing a potent phone to their ears.

This means that radiowaves are less risky than higher energy radiation like X-rays or UV, but more extremely low-frequency radiation.

'The various agencies setting safety standards have failed to impose sufficient guidelines to protect the general public, particularly children who are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF, ' they wrote.

"By not taking action, the WHO is failing to fulfil its role as the preeminent global public health agency".
