Kane williamson rushed to hospital

Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor battled New Zealand to 38 for two in reply to Bangladesh's 211 all out before rain returned to bring a premature end to the third day.

After rain prevented any play on the first two days, the weather cleared enough to allow more than 72 overs on a green wicket on day three with 13 wickets falling before the rain returned.

New Zealand scored at over five runs per over during their innings, which was declared in the 85th over.

Taylor played forcefully at anything short or wide of the stumps. Taylor, on 20, was put down twice in the same over from Ebadot Hossain, first at cover by captain Mahmadullah and again at slip by Shadman Islam.

He went on to make Bangladesh pay heavily for those dropped chances.

The win gives the Black Caps an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test contest, meaning the Black Caps have won their fifth-straight Test series.

Despite Mahmudullah's resistance, Wagner ran through the tail to give New Zealand the win.

"From what I've been speaking with the physio and Kane about, if things progress as we hope, then going to the IPL shouldn't be a problem for him".

Taylor, the only top-order New Zealand batsman to fail in the first Test, was in a particularly aggressive mood with boundaries off the first two balls he faced. But his share of the record lasted only minutes before Taylor reached his 31st half century.

The number four's sterling effort was his third Test double hundred and achieved his long-held ambition to fulfill Crowe's prophecy that Taylor would one day overtake the late great batsman's mark.

Trent Boult then claimed the wickets of opener Tamim Iqbal for four and Mominul Haque for 10 early in Bangladesh's second innings, with Shadman Islam also caught behind for 29 off Matt Henry. Tamim hit the first ball for four; Boult smiled ruefully, then produced an nearly unplayable delivery which swung, then seamed back to bowl Iqbal.

Wagner then dismissed Mohammad Mithun and Liton Das shortly after, reducing Bangladesh to 158/6 and still trailing the Black Caps by 63 runs.
