The Stars Behind College Admissions Scandal Are Getting Roasted By Fellow Celebs

Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin

Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman and Full House mainstay Lori Loughlin were among 50 individuals charged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in relation to an alleged fraud scheme to secure admissions for students at elite American universities. She was finally released from custody late Tuesday, exiting the courthouse to throngs of reporters. She was released on $2550,000 bail. She declared that actresses Lori Loughlin, 54, and Felicity Huffman, 56, - two of the 50 people who were charged in a nationwide college admissions bribery and cheating scam - should be "locked up".

The 56-year-old actress and her husband William H Macy, the star of Showtime's hit series "Shameless", allegedly paid US$15,000 for their eldest daughter to perform well on a college entrance exam. Macy was mentioned in the case but has not been charged.

The two are among 50 people charged for taking part in the largest such scam in USA history, which the scheme's mastermind said in court documents steered some 800 students into elite universities including Yale, Georgetown and Stanford by cheating the admissions process.

The mastermind of the scheme, William "Rick" Singer, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to racketeering charges.

Ms Loughlin, best known for her role in the ABC sitcom Full House and the recent Netflix sequel Fuller House, is married to clothing company founder Mossimo Giannulli, who was also charged in the scheme.

"These parents are a catalog of wealth and privilege", U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said at a news conference in Boston, where the indictments in the scandal were handed up.

In court documents obtained by HollywoodLife, prosecutors allege that Loughlin and her husband "agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team - despite the fact that they did not participate in crew - thereby facilitating their admission to USC".

It was unclear when Full House star Loughlin would turn herself in.

Some of the other universities targeted in the scam include Yale, Stanford and Georgetown.

In many cases, the students were not aware their parents had arranged for the cheating, prosecutors said, although in other cases they knowingly took part.

A former Yale soccer coach pleaded guilty before the documents went public and helped build the case against others.

The colleges themselves are not targets, the prosecutor said.
