The viral challenge cleaning places up

A new challenge #trashtag has taken over the world where the users post before and after photos of areas where they've rolled up their sleeves and filled up garbage bags worth of rubbish.

One wrote that:'Whoever came up with the #trashtag challenge is an absolute genius. The second is the socially conscious that doesn't always do what it's meant to do, like the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which involved thousands of people dumping buckets of ice water on their heads without actually donating to the cause.

An army of eco-conscious people around the world are clearing up litter and sharing photos of it on Twitter using #Trashtag.

The constructive, and even somewhat earnest social media challenge is a refreshing change of pace, especially after a series of unsafe viral challenges that have taken over the internet over the past few years.

Meanwhile in the Middle East, the hashtag was translated into #تحدي_انقاذ_البيئة [Save environment challenge] but the challenge found poor engagement.

On Instagram alone, there are more than 28,000 posts under the #Trashtag hashtag. Netizens took up the challenge in good spirit and began cleaning the littered places that needed a makeover.

It is indeed a positive social media challenge that has flooded the internet. The main goal of the challenge is to clean up their own communities before someone else does. It appears that #Trashtag has already become bigger than #Plogging, but whether you're walking, running, biking, or rolling (whatever works!), picking up trash is a great way to make public spaces safer and more accessible.
