Verizon says 5G network will cost extra $10 a month

Verizon announces 5G mobile network release date and 5G Moto Mod pre-orders

Verizon 5G home coverage will start at $70 per month.

The offer is available only on unlimited plans, which now start at $75 for one person without 5G.

In Chicago, you'll have access to Verizon's 5G in The Loop, Magnificent Mile (around the Verizon store there), The Gold Coast, River North and Old Town at the outset. That means a single Above Unlimited line with 5G access will cost $105 a month with a $5 Auto Pay discount.

Normally priced at $349.99 (yikes), the Verizon-exclusive 5G Moto Mod will be available for "a limited time" at only $50. For existing customers with the $30 phone plan, it will start at $50 per month. Besides, we still don't want to think about how much the 5G-capable Galaxy S10 variant might cost.

Whether Verizon can hold onto higher prices for its 5G mobile network will depend on decisions made in Washington, D.C., where lawmakers are deliberating the wisdom of a T-Mobile and Sprint merger.

"Minneapolis will see a similar concentration, focused on the Downtown West, Downtown East, and Elliot Park areas of the city, with a focus on landmarks like the Minneapolis Convention Center as well as the Target Center and U.S. Bank Stadium sports venues, along with the Verizon store in the Mall of America."

Verizon, which plans to expand to more than 30 USA cities in 2019, launched its first commercial 5G service in October when its 5G Home offering went live in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

Finally, the last obstacle between you and 5G is a compatible device. By the way, the handset can be obtained free of charge from Big Red with a device payment plan and new line of service, fetching $10 a month for a total of $240 for upgrading customers.

"To buy a 5G Moto Mod, customers must either have an active Moto Z3 on their account or purchase a Moto Z3 at the same time as the 5G Moto Mod", Verizon said.

The 4G LTE-enabled Moto Z3 is already out, but its 5G Moto Mod add-on arrives on Thursday, April 11, and pre-orders start even sooner: tomorrow, Thursday, March 14.
