Browns' Kareem Hunt gets 8-game ban for altercation with woman

NFL suspends Kareem Hunt for first eight games of 2019

After weeks of speculation, a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter says the league is suspending Hunt for the first eight games of the 2019 season for violating the personal conduct policy. The rulebook has been updated to six game suspension now, so it is likely that Hunt could have used that. "I know that my behavior hurt a lot of people, and I again apologize to them", Hunt said in a statement.

Hunt sat out the final five games of the 2018 regular season after the Chiefs cut him, although the clock for times served on suspensions does not begin when a player is placed on the NFL's Reserve/Commissioner Exempt List, as Hunt was when the video surfaced.

Hunt admitted he was "in the wrong" and apologized to the woman in the video, the Chiefs organization, and his family.

The NFL said in a statement Hunt's ban is the result of two separate incidents.

Hunt will not appeal the punishment handed down by the league, advising the NFL "he accepts responsibility for his conduct and the discipline that has been imposed".

Hunt, a former National Football League rushing champion, was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last season after video became public that showed him shoving and kicking a woman during an incident in a Cleveland hotel last February. I'm extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field.

"He has committed to take advantage of available resources to help him grow personally and as a member of the Cleveland community, and to live up to his obligations as an National Football League player", the statement read.

Hunt's Browns will play the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium at some point during the 2018 season. I also appreciate all of the support I received from my union through this process. General manager John Dorsey drafted Hunt in Kansas City and felt the OH native was contrite and deserved a second chance. As a result of the video, the National Football League launched an investigation into his misconduct. Hunt has been working out at the Browns' facility in Berea, Ohio, and is scheduled to take part in the team's offseason program starting on 1 April.

Because the suspension is one without pay, Hunt will forfeit $303,529 of his base salary.
