Valve debuts Steam Link Anywhere, opens its multiplayer platform to devs

Valve extend Steam Link out of the home and networking API to all developers

The feature is now in beta and requires a few caveats, but it's still really exciting. Go to the Steam Link computer settings and select "Other Computer".

What Valve is doing with Steam Link Anywhere mirrors a lot of what's happening elsewhere in the industry.

In other words, assuming you have a strong enough data connection, you can play your Steam games on your Android device from anywhere in the world.

According to the announcement, Steam Link Anywhere is now in early beta and accessible to anyone with beta firmware, or using the Android Steam Link beta app or Raspberry Pi Steam Link app.

Steam Link Anywhere means that as long as your internet connection is stable and you don't mind having a computer running while you're out, you should theoretically be capable of playing games literally anywhere.

Valve did not state the exact specifications required to stream at various resolutions, but added that it would continue to improve the Steam Link Anywhere experience.

Valve's Steam Link hardware might be dead, but Steam Link as a service is getting a pretty major upgrade.

Steam Link Anywhere is an extension of Steam Link that will enable users to connect to their PCs and play games from anywhere (thus the name), rather than being limited to a local network.

For what it's worth, I was able to get this going without issue on my OnePlus 6T with my Steam library hosted on my Windows 10 PC. Valve explain the system here, and among the perks for developers are anonymized network traffic (protecting servers and clients from DDOS attacks) and potentially lower pings through Valve's networks.
