Aurora Cannabis taps billionaire investor Nelson Peltz as strategic adviser; shares jump

Nelson Peltz

Peltz is an expert investor who takes active investments in companies he views as undervalued.

'I believe Aurora has a solid execution track record, is strongly differentiated from its peers, has achieved integration throughout the value chain and is poised to go to the next level across a range of industry verticals, ' said Peltz. "I also believe that Canadian licensed producers, and Aurora in particular, are well positioned to lead in the development of the worldwide cannabis industry as regulations evolve, with a strong, globally replicable operating model". Vinesh Pratap got a look inside Aurora Sky.

Peltz's Trian Fund Management owns or has owned stakes in various consumer goods companies, including PepsiCo, Wendy's and Procter & Gamble.

Peltz immediately increases the likelihood of strategic partnerships, according to analysts. He formerly served as a director on Mondelez International Inc(NASDAQ: MDLZ), Heinz Company, Legg Mason Inc (NYSE: LM) and Ingersoll-Rand PLC (NYSE: IR).

The addition of Peltz to the Aurora team represents one of the largest endorsements of the nascent cannabis industry.

Peltz will provide his services through 280 Park ACI Holdings.

The Aurora deal gives Peltz the option to buy almost 20 million shares of the company at $7.74 - which could make him the second-largest owner, behind Vanguard.

The options granted to Peltz will become effective gradually over a four-year period on a quarterly basis, with accelerated vesting if specified events occur. The Senior Advisor may exercise any portion of the Option that has vested on or prior to the seventh anniversary of the date of grant. The fund purchased 11,669 shares of the company's stock, valued at approximately $112,000. Jefferies Financial Group restated a "buy" rating and issued a C$12.00 price target on shares of Aurora Cannabis in a report on Monday, February 25th.

The TSX posted 12 new 52-week highs and no new low. "Stories like this are further validation of the massive global potential of the cannabis industry". The deal will see Hexo add significantly more cannabis growing capacity as well as distribution to five additional provinces in Canada's recreational market.

Aurora Cannabis Inc (NYSE:ACB) welcomed aboard billionaire Nelson Peltz as a strategic advisor, the company announced Wednesday. (TSXV: HEMP), Cann Group Ltd. (ASX: CAN), Micron Waste Technologies Inc. Seaport Global Securities restated a "neutral" rating on shares of Aurora Cannabis in a report on Thursday, February 21st.
