Bryce Harper limps off after being hit by pitch on ankle

Philadelphia Phillies Bryce Harper swings at a pitch from Toronto Blue Jays Matt Shoemaker during the first inning of a spring training baseball game Saturday

Harper was forced to leave the game, though he did walk under his own power.

"Bryce has a right foot contusion", Kapler said after a 3-2 win over Toronto.

"Certainly extra scary given where we are in camp", he said.

Harper went down to the dirt Friday after being struck by a 96 miles per hour fastball from Toronto rookie Trent Thornton.

"We are confident he is going to be alright". The slugging outfielder went down to the dirt, clutched his ankle and stayed on the ground for a few moments. Shane Robinson, a non-roster invitee to Spring Training, pinch-ran for Harper and ultimately replaced him in right field. The 26-year-old slugger had made his spring training debut in a game with the Phillies last Saturday, and was playing right field for the first time in a Philly uniform Friday. Phillies Manager Gabe Kapler says the team has no major concerns about the injury. He was hitless in two at-bats before exiting and is 0-for-5 in two games.
