Bangladesh's cricket team has been left stunned after seeing "bloodstained people staggering out of the mosque" in Christchurch.

Bangladesh s cricket team escaped unscathed after a shooting at a mosque in central Christchurch, an official told AFP on Friday.

"Had we reached even three or four minutes earlier we would have probably been inside the mosque", Mashud told Bangladesh media in a video posted on Cricinfo.

"They are at the ground, they are shaken but good".

In a statement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that they had been in constant contact with the players and team management.

"Importantly, our players are safe". "We have asked the team to stay confined in the hotel", the spokesman said.

"When any foreign team comes to our country, we always ensure proper security", Mr. Hassan said.

A similar incident five years later resulted in New Zealand leaving Sri Lanka once again. "Once it is assured only then we will go, otherwise not", he said.

"I spoke to one of them shortly after [the incident]".

The All Blacks, New Zealand's all-conquering rugby team and the reigning world champions, tweeted: "Christchurch, we stand with you during this time".

David Richardson, the chief executive of the International Cricket Council, said in a statement: "Our thoughts and honest condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this horrendous incident in Christchurch".

"It's quite unbelievable really". The team manager, Khaled Mashud, said a few minutes made the difference from the team being inside the mosque.

Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal said on Twitter the experience had been "frightening". "We cancelled the net session and started for the prayers", Srinivas, who played for the St Therese Convent School in Dombivli and Kelkar College in Mulund, said.

"W$3 e r extremely lucky", Mushfiqur said.

New Zealand had already lost the Test series and the first three ODIs before the incident.

Coach Steve Rhodes said the squad were still in shock from the incident. "It's miracle that I am alive", Srinivas Chandrasekeran, a Mumbaibased electronics and communications engineer, told Mirror from New Zealand, shuddering to recall the bloodbath at a Christchurch mosque.

England's cricket team was provided security equal to that of a head of a state when they visited Bangladesh in 2016, months after one of the worst extremist attacks on foreigners in a Dhaka cafe.

The former president of the Muslim Association of Canterbury Mohammed Jama said a man with a gun went into the mosque about 1.40pm on Friday, stuff.co.nz reported.

"This is shocking. This will change the entire fabric of global sports hosting". 1984-85 India tour of Pakistan: The tour was called off following the assassination of Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi.

They were housed securely in a dressing room at the ground while a local liaison person explained how they would get back to their hotel safely.

'Our thoughts and honest condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this horrendous incident in Christchurch, ' Richardson said.
