Liberal MPs shut down SNC committee before vote on recalling Wilson-Raybould

That prompted opposition members to shout angry accusations about a "cover-up" and call the actions of Liberal committee members "disgusting" and "despicable".

"The motion was not defeated, instead, the Liberal MPs on the committee undemocratically called an abrupt end to the meeting, refusing debate, denying transparency and withholding justice", she added.

Conservative MP Michael Cooper said it is essential for the discussion to be out in the open because not allowing Wilson-Raybould to speak again is obstructing the committee's ability to fully study the matter.

Poilievre told the committee he wanted Wilson-Raybould to appear again to answer claims made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's former top aide Gerald Butts.

"I never asked for this", she said.

Wilson-Raybould quit the federal cabinet in mid-February amid a controversy over pressure she says she faced from Butts and others last fall to head off a criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin over alleged bribery and fraud it used to seek contracts in Libya.

When he testified, Butts put the dispute down to a series of miscommunications and misunderstandings.

She said she had spent her life opposing the Indian Act and couldn't be in charge of the programs administered under its authority.

While Wilson-Raybould did present her accounts of what happened to the House of Commons Justice Committee opposition leader Andrew Scheer has said that her statements have not gone far enough and is now pushing her to continue sharing her experience.

But Poilievre said Trudeau doesn't want Canadians to know what that is.

"If they were going to let her speak, they could have done it today ..."

Justin Trudeau is gambling on two things: Canadians losing interest in this crisis over time, and that the budget will actually be more interesting than Justin, Jody and the SNC-Lavalin scandal. That period of time is now subject to solicitor-client privilege and cabinet confidentiality, which the prime minister is allowed to waive.

New Democrat MP Tracey Ramsey said Trudeau himself has benefited from a double standard.

And one more kicker: the next meeting will be held behind closed doors, no cameras allowed, leaving Canadians wondering if they will ever know what happened.

The opposition also points out the committee did hear a second time from Privy Council clerk Michael Wernick and deputy justice minister Nathalie Drouin, after Wilson-Raybould's first appearance raised additional questions to pose to them.
