Nancy Pelosi takes Trump impeachment off the table: ‘He ‘isn’t worth it’

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., broke with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday on the topic of potentially impeaching President Trump.

Cicilline said, "We should never proceed with impeachment for political reasons and we should never avoid moving forward with impeachment for political reasons".

However, Pelosi went on to add that Trump is unfit to be president.

For two full years, Democrats pinned their hopes on the report of the special counsel finding evidence of collusion with Russian Federation to initiate action against Mr. Trump.

The speaker had previously taken a cautious tone when discussing possibly impeaching the president - a path widely viewed as politically fraught, though its supporters say with so few examples in American history it remains to be seen how a new trial would play out in the public. "And he's just not worth it", she told the Post.

"I'm not for impeachment", the California Democrat said in an eye-opening interview with the Washington Post that was published Monday.

"And Nancy said we're not looking to impeach you". Once in control of the House, in 2007, she made sure that Pentagon operations in Iraq were fully funded, including the major escalation ordered by Bush (the "surge"), that was in direct defiance of the public sentiment revealed in the election.

Republicans gave Pence, who serves as president of the Senate, an additional first-floor office in the U.S. Capitol after Trump's inauguration in 2017.

"I think the more candidates the better", he said.

Last month, after Trump declared a national emergency and ordered the Pentagon to shift funds appropriated by Congress for military construction to build his border, Pelosi said, quite correctly, that in seeking to bypass the congressional "power of the purse", Trump was "shredding the Constitution".

So what we see here is the leader of the Republican party raising the specter of impeachment, while the ostensible leader of the Democratic party tamping down impeachment talk. "We are not governing with a focus on impeachment".

Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, who conducted an all-day televised hearing for Michael Cohen, Trump's former lawyer and "fixer", chimed in with his support. The feisty politician simply said, "I'm not for impeachment", when asked about her stance regarding the issue. "And yet in declaring that impeachment, therefore, is 'just not worth it, ' Ms. Pelosi may also be setting a far-reaching new standard with implications long after Mr. Trump leaves office".

"The perceptions of Estonia and members of both houses of the US Congress regarding the challenges we face and their solutions are fairly similar", she said following the meetings.
