Raonic, Bencic reach Indian Wells semis

Raonic beat the 19-year-old Serb 6-4 6-3 Thursday to reach the semifinals

Canadian Milos Raonic made sure Miomir Kecmanovic's luck ran out on Thursday, beating the 19-year-old Serbian 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the ATP Indian Wells Masters.

Thiem was given a free pass into the semis when the French showman Gael Monfils withdrew from their quarterfinal match-up citing a badly strained Achilles tendon in his left leg. Thiem will now face Milos Raonic, who leads their head to head 2-0.

"So sorry guys, thank you for everything you gave me this week".

Andreescu will play the victor of the second semifinal between No. 23 seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and No. 8 seed Angelique Kerber of Germany in Sunday's final.

On the women's side, Belinda Bencic beat Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semifinals, ensuring her return to the top 20 in the rankings. I'm just trying to play. "I'm not going to the court with any expectation". Bencic hopes to make her second final appearance of the year and her ninth final appearance of her career.

"Venus is just such a great player and an wonderful champion", Kerber said about her opponent, who came on to the court with a heavily taped right knee.

Though she lost serve to begin the second set, Kerber rebounded immediately as the two traded breaks twice in the second set, before she won the last three games to seal the match and her spot in the final.

The hard-serving Canadian saved all three break points against him on Thursday and converted on two of his three break-point opportunities. From the get-go, Kerber made strong in-roads into Williams' serve, especially the second serve and was just as relentless on her own serves.

"I wouldn't believe I win today again", Bencic said.

He has accepted a wild card into the qualifying draw in Miami, which will mark the first time he's played a qualifying tournament since 2007 at Queen's Club.

With their first ever meeting going the distance, Bencic took the decider to extend her winning run to 12 matches and back up her upset of top seed and defending champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.

Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga advanced to the women's semis on Wednesday. She won her third career title at Dubai last month and her first since 2015.
