New Line Cinema Sets Sopranos Prequel Film For September 2020

The Sopranos prequel film that's directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The New World) will be released on 25 September 2020, as reported by The Wrap.

The Sopranos prequel movie was previously known as Newark, but Deadline reports that the original title The Many Saints of Newark is now being used.

Production on "The Sopranos" prequel "Newark" is expected to start sometime in May with the release date now confirmed for next year.

"Newark" is set in the 1960s during the Newark riots, five days of violence in the New Jersey city sparked by the beating of a black man by white police officers. Find out everything you need to know about the series about young Tony Soprano here.

Other details involve the character of Dickie Moltisanti played by Nivola, who's the late father of Christopher Moltisanti (played by Michael Imperioli) and cousin of Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco).

"I'm thrilled that I am going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled", Michael added of the series creator. In addition to Gandolfini, the cast includes Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, and Ray Liotta. His legend hangs large as a pivotal member, along with Tony and Uncle Junior, as someone who transformed the family into one to be reckoned with in the Tri-State area.

The film originally had the working title of The Many Saints of Newark.
