Jaguar Land Rover RECALL 44,000 cars for excessive CO2 emissions

Jaguar Land Rover will recall more than 44,000 cars for repairs after United Kingdom regulators found faulty models emitting more carbon dioxide than advertised.

JLR said in a statement: "Jaguar Land Rover is conducting a voluntary recall following the identification of Carbon dioxide performance variability with certain Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with 2.0-litre diesel or petrol engines".

The firm said it was a voluntary recall of certain 2016-2019 MY Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with two litre diesel or petrol engines.

While some of the affected models will need physical repairs in a dealership, others will need software updates. The company will contact the owners of the affected vehicles to arrange for free-of-charge repairs.

Land Rover models affected are the 2.0 litre petrol versions of the Land Rover Discovery, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque, with the 2.0 litre diesel in the Evoque also in the frame.

While the recall is not expected to have a major financial impact on the company, it comes at a time when Britain's largest carmaker has already been battling Brexit-related headwinds for the automotive industry.

JLR is undergoing a cost savings programme that involves cutting 4,500 jobs.

In a statement, JLR said: "Affected vehicles are being rectified to ensure the correct Carbon dioxide performance is dependably achieved".

JLR is facing a number of challenges at the moment, including a slump in demand for diesel cars and a sales slowdown in China.

In November 2018, JLR sales in China were down 50.7% when compared to the previous year as market conditions remained hard with continuing consumer uncertainty following tariff changes and trade concerns.

JLR then informed the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, which handles recalls, of the findings.
