Amazon working on Alexa wireless earbuds

Bloomberg's sources said Amazon's wireless earbuds will come with numerous same features that Apple's AirPods have, but possibly in grey or black color configurations. "The headphones will look and act similar to AirPods", - the report indicates they won't use ear hooks like some other true-wireless headphones - but Amazon is "striving for better audio quality".

The new wireless earbuds will also have the Alexa software built-into them, Bloomberg reports, which means that you'll be able to give voice commands to complete various tasks, whether its ordering products or listening to music, searching up information and more.

The e-commerce giant has not declared the price and release date yet. Put differently, its wireless earbuds are likely to be priced well below the AirPods, which is at $159 or $199 depending on the case it's bundled with. Last year, the company held its hardware event on September 20, so it's possible the Alexa buds could be launched around the same time this year.

Bloomberg's sources aren't sure when the earbuds will be available, and say Amazon has faced development delays.

The Amazon earbuds are wireless headphones that won't need clips or cables to stay in people's ears. The earbuds as any other will support gesture controls such as tapping to attend calls, alter music tracks and much more. That said, those 5 hours of playback are just over half what you'll get from the latest Apple headphones release from its Beats brand, the Powerbeats Pro, which are expected to arrive in May. The company is working on a third-generation, higher-end pair with noise-cancellation and water resistance, according to people familiar with the plans. Each earbud of the earphones connects to smartphones independently through Bluetooth, so that a user can choose to use right, left or both earbuds as needed.

After early jokes when AirPods launched in 2016, the product has become a huge hit for Apple, helping to augment slower iPhone sales. Moreover, the AirPods already have competition with Samsung Galaxy Buds, Google Pixel Buds and more.
