Duke Basketball: R.J. Barrett officially declares for the 2019 NBA Draft

Duke forward RJ Barrett reacts after scoring against Michigan State during the first half of an NCAA men's East Regional final college basketball game in Washington Sunday

"It was a dream of mine to play at Duke, ever since I was a young kid", Barrett said in an Instagram video on Wednesday.

Barrett will join Murray State's Ja Morant as the highest profile prospects to have formally announced their intentions to declare for the draft.

The Mississauga, Ontario native averaged 22.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in his freshman season at Duke, doing so on 45.4 percent shooting from the field and 30.8 percent from 3-point range. He became one of our best defensive rebounders, and was close to triple-doubles quite a bit because of his scoring, rebounding and assists.

Barrett tied with fellow Duke freshman Zion Williamson for the top scoring average in the ACC this season.

Barrett and Duke lost to Michigan State in the East Regional Final. The Blue Devils bested Florida State to win the ACC Tournament and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, where they were defeated by Michigan State.

Barrett will provide a huge scoring boost to whichever team he goes to as the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Chicago Bulls are all desperate for a potential 20-point per game scorer. "I'm looking forward to coming back and supporting the Blue Devils in any way I can". He said playing at Duke is a dream but added that "it's also a dream of mine to play in the National Basketball Association and have great success there". Redick when he put up 964 points in 2006. "Just wanted to thank you for everything".

Barrett, who starred at Duke for one season with Zion Williamson, has officially declared for the 2019 NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft isn't until June, of course, so it'll be interesting to see how Barrett's stock fluctuates in the time leading up to draft night, as his pro-style showcases increase in frequency.
