Former NFL running back Cierre Wood arrested on first-degree child abuse charges

Cierre Wood

A former NFL football running back arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of child abuse now faces murder charges after the 5-year-old girl died.

Wood, 28, was arrested early Wednesday at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas after La-Rayah Davis died there Tuesday night. An arrest report reveals she was taken to a hospital and found to have bruising to her torso, legs and abdomen. Wood and Amy Taylor, the girl's mother and Wood's girlfriend, had already been charged with child abuse/neglect.

Jail records showed that Wood was being held without bail. They are scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning. It was not immediately clear whether Talyor had been released on $5,000 bond. He had five carries for 12 yards playing at the National Football League level. He also tallied 52 catches for 384 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Wood pictured in action for the Buffalo Biills during a preseason game in 2015.

Wood played at Notre Dame from 2010 through 2013 and went on to play in the NFL. He signed with the Bombers in April of last season and was released on May 1. His last couple of seasons in professional football have been spent north of the border in the Canadian Football League, where he was now a free agent. He was released by Montreal in May of past year.
