Khashoggi family denies settlement with Saudis: statement

Trump Talks to Saudi Prince Despite Uproar Over Khashoggi

Reports said children of Jamal Khashoggi have received million-dollar houses in the kingdom.

No settlement has been agreed between the family of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the Saudi government, said the journalist's son on Wednesday. Jamal's son Salah Khashoggi said that no such settlement was discussed now or before, adding that trial for his father's murder is underway.

Khashoggi, a journalist and a permanent resident of the USA, was murdered in October at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, by a Saudi Arabian "kill team". His body has not been recovered.

US President Donald Trump discussed maintaining pressure on Iran, human rights issues and Middle East stability in a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the White House said in a press release.

us intelligence officials have said they think the crown prince ordered Khashoggi's killing - a claim that Saudi officials deny.

Meanwhile, prosecutors are seeking death penalty for five of 11 people allegedly involved in Khashoggi's murder.

The statement did not openly confirm or deny possible reparations from the Saudi king or crown prince, whom the family called "guardians to all Saudis".

"Acts of generosity and humanity come from the high moral grounds they possess, not admission of guilt or scandal".

A statement released by the U.S. State Department had listed the 16 individuals related to the murder and said that they had been designated as unable to enter the U.S. under the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Appropriations Act. Saudi Arabia is leading a coalition battling Iranian-backed Houthi insurgents in Yemen.

President Donald Trump has defended USA ties with Saudi Arabia, despite Congressional pressure and a Senate resolution blaming the crown prince for the murder. His critics, however, point to US intelligence reports that say an operation like this could not have happened without his knowledge.

The Kashoggi family, however, could not be immediately reached for further comments on the matter.

The State Department previously revoked the visas of almost two dozen Saudi officials and froze the assets of 17 others.
