Kim Jong Un Calls on US to Stop Its 'Way of Calculation' - Report

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said he is interested in meeting Donald Trump again only if the U.S. comes with the right attitude, the regime's state media said on Saturday, after the USA president earlier floated the idea.

"The US said recently that it is thinking again of a third DPRK-US summit and have been strongly implying problem-solving through dialogue", Kim continued.

Another signal taken from the North Korean reshuffle is that North Korea's senior diplomat to the United States, Choe Son-hui, was promoted to vice foreign minister and may inherit numerous diplomatic responsibilities formerly held by General Kim Yong-chol.

Washington has blamed the February deadlock on the North's demands for sanctions relief in return for limited nuclear disarmament, but Pyongyang said it had wanted only some of the measures eased.

"If the United States approaches us with the right manner and offers to hold a third North Korea-U.S. leaders' summit on the condition of finding solutions we could mutually accept, then we do have a willingness to give it one more try", he added.

Analysts viewed Friday's announcements as the biggest shake-up in North Korean government in years, a consolidation of power that clearly separated Kim Jong-un's regime from that of his father for the first time.

"We will wait for a bold decision from the USA with patience till the end of this year but I think it will definitely be hard to get such a good opportunity as the previous summit", Kim added.

The Nationalsaw the North Korean shakeup as a generational shift, with numerous outgoing officials in their 70s, 80s, or even older.

Trump on Thursday expressed openness to "smaller deals" with the North but said he is still looking for a wide-ranging agreement under which North Korea commits to completely dismantling its nuclear weapons.

Mr. Kim also during the speech made a nationalistic call for South Korea to support the North's positions more strongly and criticised Seoul for acting like an "overstepping mediator" between Washington and Pyongyang.

"The South should not act as an "overstepping mediator" or a "facilitator" and should rather get its mind straight as a member of the (Korean) nation and boldly speak up for the interest of the nation", Mr. Kim said.

"What is needed is for the USA to stop its current way of calculation, and come to us with a new calculation", Kim said in a speech to the Supreme People's Assembly on Friday, KCNA said.

Still, North Korea is committed to better North-South relations and peaceful unification, Kim said.

North Korea has a choice "to continue to improve inter-Korean relations to relieve pressure on the Korean peninsula or to go back to the past when things collapsed amid increasing risks of war", he said.

North Korean officials have traditionally insisted that denuclearization means the USA reducing or eliminating its security commitment to South Korea, including removing nuclear-capable assets from the region.
