Kohli named among Wisdens best

Virat Kohli and Smriti Mandhana

As for the Five Cricketers of the Year, he shared the same with England's Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Rory Burns and Tammy Beaumont.

Some splendid performances through 2018 saw the likes of Beaumont, Curran, Burns and Buttler get picked alongside Kohli as the Five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Indian women opener Smriti Mandhana bagged the women's Leading Cricketer of the Year.

It was a double delight for Kohli, who will lead India's World Cup campaign in England later this year, as he was named the best cricketer in the world for an unprecedented third year in a row.

During 2018, India captain Kohli scored five Test hundreds and amassed an impressive 1,322 runs - 299 more than any other player.

Mandhana, the Leading Women's Cricketer of the Year, scored 669 and 662 runs in ODIs and T20Is during the course of 2018. Curran, who made his ODI and Test debuts, also helped Surrey to the County Championship title previous year.

Buttler, a key component of England's white-ball sides, made a triumphant return to the Test arena last May, scoring his maiden century in the format against India at Trent Bridge.

Wisden editor Lawrence Booth, speaking ahead of Thursday's publication, said: "Sam Curran was central to England's 4-1 Test win over India, the world's number one ranked side, turning the games at Edgbaston and Southampton with hard-hit half-centuries". The wicket-keeper batsman also continued to do well in the limited overs format and averaged over 50 in ODI cricket. Following his success, Burns was selected for England tour of Sri Lanka and West Indies, respectively.

Kohli was also named as the leading men´s player in the world for a third straight year. He then went onto register his maiden Test century in August past year.

The latest edition of Wisden Cricketers´ Almanack, considered the "Bible" of the game, is published on April 11.
