Man accused of throwing child from mall balcony had been banned

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda thegrio

"I heard the mother screaming pray for my kid. please pray for my son. everyone please pray", said Brian Johnson, witness.

In July 2015, he was arrested at the Mall of America on three misdemeanor charges - property damage, disorderly conduct and interfering with a peace officer - after police say Aranda threw items from the upper level of the mall to the lower level.

'A monster of a man threw him from a 3rd floor balcony at the mall, he is fighting to stay with us every second'.

'His soul is soft and gentle and instantly brings a smile to everybody he meets, ' according to the GoFundMe page.

Potts called the situation "horrific" and said the department was keeping the boy and his family in their "thoughts and prayers".

Court records show the suspect was charged following two previous run-ins with police and security officers at the megamall.

Police said the 24-year-old man is not known to the child, or the child's family. The boy's name and condition have not been released; Potts said the family has requested privacy.

"The child is still alive and receiving care", he said.

Police have accused Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, with attempted homicide and he is being held at the Bloomington Police Department in Minneapolis, US.

He said that cops had given the child first aid along with members of the public.

Potts believes this most recent incident is isolated and said the Mall of America continues to be a very safe place to go.

Authorities believe there's no relationship between the suspect and the child or his family. Our immediate and only concern is for the wellbeing of the family and the child, as well as for any individuals who may have witnessed the incident.

"We have counselling services available for anyone who may need assistance".

The suspect has a history with the mall and was previously banned, court records show. "Bloomington Police is investigating the incident", it said.

He violated the ban in October 2015 when he was arrested for throwing a drinking a glass at woman at a restaurant, the station reported. Police say both the victim and Aranda live in the Twin Cities. He had also swept his hand across a display table at the beauty store Bare Minerals, breaking lip gloss containers and shot glasses, police said.

Aranda asked the woman to buy him something while they sat outside the restaurant, waiting for it to open.

Aranda was under a trespass notice at the time banning him from the mall until July 4, 2016.
