Messenger to Move Back to the Original Facebook App

Facebook May Finally Stop Forcing You to Use Its Messenger App

Speculation is that Messenger will find its way back into Facebook for the general public, but will also still exist as a standalone app, perhaps for business users.

Notable Twitter sleuth Jane Manchun Wong has uncovered evidence that Facebook is preparing to integrate Messenger into Facebook again, publishing screenshots that show chat functionality within the main Facebook app.

A Facebook spokeswoman said that the company did not have any additional details to share at this time.

It's possible that rolling chat back into the main Facebook app is part of this effort, though it's not clear if or when it will roll out to the general public.

However, it seems that the "new" chats will not have all the functions that Messenger now performs. Facebook was spotted testing the feature by an app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

This all tracks with recent news that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to roll Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger into a single platform.

The only reason Facebook is implementing the Chat function to the native Facebook app is to provide users a new platform to connect with their friends.

Messenger has been one of the troubled Facebook kids and it might be coming back home. The social media giant completely removed the section making it into a different standalone app in 2014. As the name suggests, the app works independently allowing users to open chats and send messages, send photos videos, message reactions, audio, and video calls, and more. The app is being redesigned by the developers and they are experimenting with the new features of the app. Although it could change over time to become just as bloated and overstuffed with features as the spin-off app in time. But perhaps Facebook is looking forward to reunifying the app with its primary Facebook app.

If you woke up this morning and thought to yourself, "Hey, it's been a minute since I last heard about Facebook security issues affecting millions of users in scary ways", then have we got some ...
