Midengine Chevrolet Corvette to be shown in July

Barra in the C8

But, they have just released a camouflaged version of the new auto to give a sneak peak at what this new vehicle will look like.

The new Corvette C8 makes its debut July 18, 2019, and will go on sale by the end of the year.

C8 is one of the worst kept industry secrets. However, Chevrolet also added stickers with the much-anticipated release date. Code named "Zora" after the Corvette's first chief engineer, Zora Arkus-Duntov, the C8 will be the first-ever mid-engine Corvette.

"The sale of this iconic Corvette will help the foundation continue its good work, and pave the way for the Next Generation Corvette that we will introduce on July 18", said GM CEO Mary Barra. However, we've heard plenty of rumors about what will be going into this Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren slayer. Despite his attempts, GM never executed a mid-engine Corvette. The engine will be modified to fit the rear-mid-engine layout and perhaps given a power boost to take it above 500 hp. Expect the new Corvette to cost around $62,000 to start, an increase of around $5000 compared to the C7 Stingray's starting price of $56,995. The current base Corvette C7 goes for around $55,000. Corvettes haven't used DOHC engines since the short-lived ZR1 version of the C4 Corvette. A supercar positioned mid-engine V8, a naturally aspirated version on the entry-level model and a twin turbocharged version on what is now being called the C8 Z06.

We'll have to hold our breath for another 3 months before we get confirmation on the final powertrain specifications.

We all knew it was coming, but now it is official.
