Quinton de Kock demolition not enough for Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma Mumbai Indians Kings XI Punjab Indian Premier League IPL 2019

A week back, the West Indian pacer enjoyed a dream debut for Mumbai Indians, as he took six for 12 to star in the team's win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

While the two were a little watchful at the start of their innings as the first two overs yielded only nine runs, the duo took on the RR bowlers from the third over, with the left-hander getting into the act, with a six and a four and the MI skipper hitting a four to score 18 runs off the over bowled by Krishnappa Gowtham.

Wicketkeeping: It will be a tricky choice to pick between the two stalwart keepers - Quinton de Kock or Jos Buttler. Batting first, Mumbai Indians were off to a solid start with openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma adding 96 runs for the first wicket.

Jos Buttler hit 89 off 43 balls as the Rajasthan Royals claimed a four-wicket win over the Mumbai Indians on Saturday but his blistering pursuit of a maiden Indian Premier League century nearly proved costly.

Coming to Rajasthan, it seems nothing is going their way as they lost a nail-biter against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on Thursday, thanks to Mitchell Santner's last ball six which kept the yellow brigade at the top of the table. Rajasthan made a strong comeback, removing Surya Kumar Yadav (16) and Kieron Pollard (6) to put the pressure back on the host. They have a set of superb players in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes. Rahane was caught by Suryakumar Yadav at deep mid-wicket off Krunal Pandya for a 21-ball 37 but his dismissal did not deter Buttler who went on a rampage in the middle overs. In his spectacular knock, Buttler smashed seven sixes and eight fours. The Mumbai Indians reserve a 4 PM home game every season for their "Education for All" initiative.

On Tuesday, Rohit Sharma gave Mumbai Indians and India noteworthy injury alarm when he limped out of MI's training session. Chasing the ball in the penultimate over of a thrilling game, the 22-year-old tumbled badly outside the fence while preventing a boundary at long off, hurting his shoulder in the process. Jofra Archer is menacing with the ball, as is Varun Aaron and Oshane Thomas.

Hardik Pandya's 28-run cameo at the death propelled Mumbai to 187 but it wasn't enough in the end as Rohit's 100th match as captain for Mumbai Indians ended on a gloomy note.
