Two critical in Melbourne nightclub shooting

A Victoria Police personnel works at the scene of a multiple shooting outside Love Machine nightclub in Prahran Melbourne

No arrests have been made so far.

Australian media reported that the shooter, who is believed to be on the run, apparently fired from a auto as it was passing by the Love Machine nightclub, which was hosting a night for "old school groovers". According to police, an unidentified man and a 28-year-old man have sustained serious injuries, while two men are injured but out of danger.

"Investigators believe multiple people were shot outside a nightclub near Little Chapel Street and Malvern Road about 3:20am", the Victoria Police said in a statement.

Two other men, aged 29 and 50, were also shot and have been taken to hospital with what police have described as non-life-threatening injuries.

A nightclub security guard has died and another is fighting for life after a drive-by shooting outside a Melbourne nightclub. Among the four people who were hospitalized, two were in a critical condition.

The bullets were reportedly fired from a stolen black Porsche Cayenne, The Age reports.

"Three of the people struck were employees, security guards, and one person was a patron innocently waiting to get in", Insp Stamper told media at the scene.

Local detectives are probing the involvement of an outlaw motorcycle gang as the gang had recently made extortion attempts on the nightclub.

Police are urging people to avoid the area, which remains cordoned off, while the scene is forensically examined.

Blood could be seen on the footpath more than 100 metres from the nightclub.

Incidents of mass shootings are rare in Australia.
