Police were forced to open fire on a vehicle after it rammed the parked auto of Ukraine's ambassador in London.

The Ukrainian embassy in the United Kingdom said the vehicle was targeted at around 9.50am on Saturday, outside the embassy building in Holland Park.

The Ukrainian Embassy did not confirm if anyone was inside the ambassador's vehicle at the time but confirmed no one was injured.

A silver Mercedes raced towards the Ukrainian ambassadors vehicle as police shot at the driver through the window.

Police were immediately called and they opened fire after the man behind the wheel rammed the auto a second time. As police officers arrived at the scene, the vehicle then drove towards them, prompting them to open fire, shooting at the driver through the auto window.

"On arrival at the scene, a vehicle was driven at police officers", the force said in a statement. Armed and unarmed officers were dispatched to the scene and had to use firearms and Tasers to stop the man after his "vehicle was driven at police officers".

Witnesses said 10 or more gunshots had been fired.

The statement added: "The incident is not being treated as terrorist-related". "The police are investigating the suspect's identity and motive for the attack". He praised police for responding quickly.

The Holland Park area is home to several embassies including the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the Embassy of Greece and the Cameroon High Commission in London.

The black vehicle was heavily scuffed on its right-hand side.

The silver vehicle's rear right indicator was flashing and its boot and driver's door were open.

"He has been taken to a central London hospital as a precaution".

The Met said the Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.
