Modi claims India undermined Pakistan ‘nuclear threat’

Speaking at a rally in Aligarh, PM Modi said India's stature had changed in the last few years in terms of dealing with the terrorists.

"Pakistan has threatened us with nuclear, nuclear, nuclear", Modi told an election rally in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).

India has called Pakistan's nuclear capacity bluff in recent cross-border air strikes, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday, adding that one country can not have two prime ministers.

India says its fighter jets bombed a suspected militant installation in Pakistan on February 26 to avenge the killing of 40 paramilitaries by a suicide bomber in Indian Kashmir 12 days earlier.

Modi renewed his warning to Pakistan that "his new India" is capable of "eliminating terrorists in their homes". He specified that the Congress has used the defence forces only "to generate income, be it Bofors [Swedish arms manufacturer] or helicopter deals", adding that the Congress and its allies "keep politics above the security of the country". He added that the PM was trying to mislead the people of the country with politically motivated falsehoods.

PM Modi further lashed out at the Congress and its regional allies PDP and NC for forging an opportunist alliance that stands against the interests of the country and said, "The recent statements given by one of Congress' allies here asking for a separate Prime Minister for Jammu and Kashmir reveals how this alliance goes against our country". He also accused the IHK's local leadership - the Abdullah and Mufti families - of encouraging separatism and perpetuating dynastic rule, triggering prompt Twitter jibes from their leaders.

Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda has termed the raids as an act of political revenge as Kumaraswamy refused BJP's invite to join them. "That commitment made by Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mookerjee is our firm resolve", news agency PTI quoted him as saying.

Modi also vowed that India would never give up its claim to Kashmir, which is divided between the two countries, and has been the cause of two wars between the neighbours since their independence in 1947.

He also targeted the Congress for the migration of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley and said his government was committed to settle the displaced community in their native places and that work has started in this direction. But this is new India. The suicide bombing was claimed by a Pakistan-based group however. Shortly afterwards, Pakistani jets were reported to have headed into Indian airspace, prompting India to respond.
