The BCCI selectors will meet in Mumbai on Wednesday to pick the 15-man Indian squad for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Rishabh Pant, who has been India's regular wicketkeeper in Tests in the absence of Wriddhiman Saha, is another absentee and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad explained that Karthik was chosen due to his superior wicketkeeping skills. So as it stands, Team India will head to the World Cup with five batsmen, two keepers, and three all-rounders. KL Rahul has also been included.

Pant, 21, is one of India's emerging talents but the selectors have opted for 33-year-old Karthik's experience. But the selectors went for the experience ahead of the exuberance of youth. "We have seen Karthik finishing matches under pressure", chief selector MSK Prasad told a news conference.

Shankar, with his "three-dimensional qualities", took the slot which was speculated to go to Ambati Rayudu before his dip in form in the home series against Australia last month.

Here India's World Cup squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Vijay Shankar, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal.

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. Karthik was also a part of India's Champions Trophy winning squad in England in 2013 apart from being a member of India's touring Test squads in England in 2007 and 2018.

The bowlers will be assisted by the wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal while Kedar Jadhav is expected to roll his arm if required.

England, ranked No.1 on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team rankings, have been widely touted as favourites for the mega-event.

"Over the four years we've been together, we have had so many guys who have contributed to the position we find ourselves", Morgan reflected.
