BAN Trump from Twitter and Facebook for ‘trafficking hate speech’ campaigners DEMAND

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders speaks during a press briefing at the White House

Just hours after Rep. Ilhan Omar released a statement reporting a surge of threats against her life following a tweeted attack from President Donald Trump, Trump again took aim at the freshman Muslim-American congresswoman on Monday by describing her as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's "leader".

Soon after Pelosi's statement, the video disappeared as a pinned tweet at the top of Trump's Twitter feed, but it was not deleted.

"For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it", she said in the speech, according to video posted online.

The Minnesota branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, responded to Trump's attacks by organizing the rally, where people carried signs and chanted in support of Omar.

On Friday, he Tweeted a 9/11 video alongside Omar's comments about the terrorist attacks, which critics said downplayed them.

The women-led group also denounced the video, calling it "a unsafe incitement [that] puts Rep. Omar's life in danger". "It has to stop". Trump captioned his tweet with: "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!"

That quote from Omar went viral last week because when taken out of context, it sounds like a flippant diminishment of violence and terrorism.

The liberal journalist began by accusing the president of using Islam "as a way of enflaming tensions and scoring political points", pointing to the president's claim that "Islam hates us" and his call for a Muslim ban during the 2016 election.

Given that Omar, a proud-scarf-wearing-Black-Muslim-refugee-from-Somalia, says what no one in the establishment ever wants to hear, the right wing media have found it imperative to skew and distort her words at any given opportunity.

Those "other remarks" he's referring to are the string of anti-Israel sentiments she's shared since entering Congress.

On Monday, Trump flew to Minneapolis to attend an event in a congressional district bordering that represented by Omar, in a state he believes he can win in 2020.

Ilhan Omar has faced death threats.

Referring to her previous controversial comments, in which Ms Omar questioned United States support for Israel, Ms Sanders added: "It's absolutely abhorrent the comments that she continues to make and has made and they look the other way". Omar is one of the first Muslim women in Congress.

In the April 12 tweet, Trump wrote: "We will never forget!" and included video of a speech Omar gave last month in which she said: "For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it".

Sarah Sanders called Omar's comments "disgraceful and unbefitting", and questioned what she sees as lack of action from Democrats on the issue. The words are actually part of her criticism on the treatment on Muslims following the 9/11 attack.

The threats became so severe that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has requested House officials to review security measures in order to protect Omar, according to The New York Times.
