Despite the fact that Joel Embiid ended up being able to play on Saturday afternoon, and play pretty well, the Philadelphia 76ers were routed by the upstart Brooklyn Nets in Game 1 of their first-round series, 111-102.

Joel Embiid was hobbled, Ben Simmons was non-existent, but Butler put the team on his back in moments throughout the game trying to change the direction of Game 1.

The Nets bench finished second in the league in scoring in the regular season, averaging 47.8 points per game.

Things don't get much easier as they prepare to play the mighty Sixers in the first round, but throughout the season, these teams are evenly matched.

Johnson was caught by TV cameras sitting on the bench and scrolling through his phone late in the fourth quarter and the Sixers losing by double digits.

"I think he's a little more focused", coach Bret Brown said before the game. "They [the medical staff] are going to do whatever they can as far as getting me ready, but if my body doesn't respond based on the pain level, there is really nothing you can do".

Embiid said Johnson was just checking on his sick daughter, according to a report from The Athletic.

Simmons also blasted the 20,437 Sixers fans for booing the team for most of the game.

Embiid said the voracious booing that was largely absent during the dark days of the Sixers 10-win season was tough to hear. And Davis added 12 points and 16 rebounds, his energy making Embiid look lethargic at times. Not to mention Jimmy Butler, his notoriously competitive teammate. Team owner Josh Harris said both players could be re-signed.

"I'll point exclusively to fatigue", Brown said.

Well, the Brooklyn Nets have done the unthinkable.
